got fashion?

Monday, March 29, 2010

it's Monday but it feels like Friday

Today was my day off, and I allowed myself to stay home and skip university. I stayed in bed all day watching TV and listening to this song over and over again.
I must confess I'm homesick and I just can't wait to go home. I think I'm leaving on Saturday, so I'll be home for Easter.
I wish you all a great week!

9. Lara

"This set is inspired by Lara Stone and because of the photo I kept it black and white.I'm having a bows and stripes period, more like an obsession:).
For me,Polyvore is an addiction and when I opened my Polyvore account I started a fashion blog too(fashion in my eyes); that was 2 years ago. From there on things went in such a great direction.
My Polyvore page is filled with sets and my blog with lovely readers. So for me, Polyvore is one of the best sites out there and a fantastic creative outlet." nookie

fashion is a mask...

Je ne sais pas pourquois but lately my blog has come on second place when it comes to priorities. I'm not an important person, I don't have much to do, I only work on weekends, but still I always find something else to do. I spend a lot of time with my friends doing pretty much nothing, just hanging around, I skip classes (shame on me, I'm not proud of this, and I keep promising myself that it's the last time I do it, and I always seem to fail on keeping my promise).

Today I had an early morning, and while drinking my coffee and browsing the net I was surprised to find out that the fashion world moves on so fast. I know we've talked about this on another occasion, and others have done it too.  But it's a real fact and I can't help myself but notice that it doesn't matter if you are busy, occupied or preoccupied with something else, magazines, because that's what I'm talking about, will keep on moving forward. I think it only passed two days since I've last posted something and today I present you four brand new covers, or at least new for me.

I must recognize that what bothers me is not the fact that I can't keep up with the fashion world because the rhythm is a little bit too fast for me; what really bothers me is that time is passing by without any notice. Today we are young with no care in the world, partying and fooling around, and the next day we have to provide for two children, raise and educate them. Yes, I'm afraid of getting old, I already feel old and I'm only 20 years old. They say it doesn't matter how old you are but how old you feel, and that the spirit never gets old. Maybe mine already did, or I might as well fantasies but that's how I feel and fashion is my mask, my tool of hiding from who I am and how I feel somtimes, my trick for feeling pretty; and you know what? For me it really works. give it a try, too!
Have a great day and don't forget to enjoy every moment of it !

8.It's 5 O'clock In The Morning, Conversation Got Boring
It's 5 O'clock In The Morning, Conversation Got Boring

Philosophically creative fashionista from Great Britain Z♥LDN  has been so kind to share with us her thoughts.

"I chose this set because it really sums up Spring for me. Lately London has been getting the occasional spot of sunshine and last week I spotted the first spring flowers which made me smile to no end. In terms of those in this set, I just wanted something that could look great during the day and give off a casually chic vibe for evening. Mixing patterns isn't something I usually do however I couldn't resist a touch on leopard print to break up the romanticism of the stripe and floral top. My favorite item of the whole set is the Ink-Print Bayswater bag by Mulberry, I love that something so classic is transformed with a whimsical addition. Over all, this spring I will look to ditch some of the black I've been wearing as part of the rock-chic aesthetic during the last season and welcome sorbet shades as well as that enticing shade of khaki.
Inspiration for this season: Chloe, Christopher Kane, Valentino, Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler."

March Inspiration

1. Dior look

This spring Dior has trade the usual edgy look (and sometimes even scary) for something more retro and more feminine. The red lips along with the lavender eye-shadow and the wavy hair make a perfect combo, so wearable and easy to do. Nothing too fancy or pretentious, a perfect day time look that I just love.

3. Alice in wonderland
http://dietrichthrall.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/alice-in-wonderland-triptych-poster.jpg Lately I've seen a lot of Alice everywhere: newspapers, television, Internet etc. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I bet I'll love it.
For me it's all about the look: the ribbons in her hair, the full skirts, the curly hair.

keep up with...

Honestly, I'm not what some may call a fashionista. I haven't seen the latest collection from fashion week, I'm way behind with the newest trends and I don't even bother to keep up. But still, I'm what others may call a little fashionista; I like to play dress-up games, I spend hours wondering what I should wear, what goes with what and how to look prettier than the previous day.The reason why I refuse to watch any show from the A\W 2010-2011 collections is because I live the present, I enjoy every moment of spring. Everyone seems to be interested in what we should wear the next season. But guys, it's still spring, we should think about the present not the future. Obviously, designers advertise their collection in order to make a profit but let's face it nobody buys clothes for the next season. Even the blogs are filled with issues about autumn\winter trends, pictures from the runway and so on... But I do want to know what I should wear this spring, don't you?

"That's what I love about fashion it's an expression of what you feel and it has no limit to what you can create." mshotpink from Polyvore

Inspiration: movies, music, pictures, quotes and her daily life.

"So this set was inspired by the pictures in the background, all of my sets usually start out this way, whatever pictures I choose dictate what colors I'm going to use or what sort of feel they're going to have.
I like making sets that are wearable, that anyone could probably wear in real life.I would say I would wear 98% of my sets and I wouldn't mind having every item in them either.I think this set represents my style; it's simple but it's still chic. I don't really like to over accessorize I think you can have an amazing outfit with just a few pieces. But that's just me."

why she hates fashion

"A confession – it's been stalking me for years now, this crawling disdain for fashion; the certainty that it is not an ally but an enemy. The older I am, the more disenchanted I am with what is meant to make us beautiful."

"How much more feminine to be insecure. Run towards the ever-receding sense of self-acceptance and the promise of love; perhaps this collection will fix you! Or this one! And if it doesn't, there will be two more next year, like a bad clock. And always, because designers produce just one tiny dress for all the advertising campaigns and magazine editorials, because improbable slimness is a mirage most women can only weep (and shop) for, came the continual, wicked message – too fat."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/jan/22/i-hate-fashion-tanya-gold

A must read article that has raised a lot of controversy. Personally I'm totally against what she wrote.
Fashion is superficial because it's supposed to. I've learned this along the way, and accepted it as it is. Everybody is free to have their own opinion about the issues but I think Tanya exaggerated and her reasons go beyond the excuse that fashion makes women unhappy.
